Belgian Bluestone

Belgian bluestone, also known as Belgian blue stone, Belgian blue limestone or petit granit, is one of the most iconic natural stones of the Low Countries. This compact limestone formed some 340 million years ago on the floor of a shallow sea and is quarried in Wallonia, southern Belgium. You can recognise it by its blue-grey colour and the white fossils of crinoids that appear as small stars on its surface. For centuries, bluestone has shaped Belgian and Dutch streetscapes, from kerbs and thresholds to monumental facades. Hard and frost-resistant, it develops a natural patina over the years and lasts for generations. Since 1923, STONE NV has supplied Belgian bluestone as tiles, slabs and custom work, from Belgium to clients across Europe, the United States and the Middle East. Choose from finishes such as black honed, brushed with tumbled edges, sanded and rough sawn, in formats from 110×220 mm to 603×800 mm. This way, you find the right look for every project: from sleek indoor floors and bathrooms to terraces, pool surrounds, stairs, thresholds and facades. Below, you will find everything about the properties, finishes, applications and maintenance of Belgian bluestone.
